The latest rumor from Engadget is the iPad 2, iPhone 5, and future Apple TV will be powered by a Cortex A9-based multicore processor that Apple is likely to name the A5 processor. It is also being rumored that Apple is switching to Qualcomm manufactured wireless chipsets for the iPad 2, and iPhone 5 enabling both devices to run on either Verizon or AT&T in the United States. Lastly, they predict that the iPad 2 will offer an SD card slot, enabling photographers to easily load photos onto the iPad.
As for the A5, it is anticipated the A5 will feature a dual-core processor at speeds of 1GHz or above much like Nvidia’s Tegra 2. Apple’s current A4 processor is based on the single core Cortex A8 ARM processor and powers the existing iPad, iPhone 4, and Apple TV. It is expected the dual-core A5 processor will find its way into the iPad 2, iPhone 5, and future Apple TV devices.

Google is in aggressive talks with publishers to compete with Apple’s digital newsstand market. Apple currently takes 30% commissions from digital sales through iTunes. Google, however, in an attempt to undercut its competitor is offering less than 30% , and has also proposed giving publishers certain personal data about app buyers to help for marketing purposes.
Apple is not going to take this one sitting down, and has already started preparing for a confrontation. For starters, they are making it easier for publishers to offer discounts on long term commitments. Furthermore, they are offering to share personal data with publishers with an opt in program. Publishers are less content with an opt in because they believe consumers are unwilling to share their personal data. While the move by Google is a smart one, especially with the slew of Android tablets coming out this year, it certainly remains to be seen how their offering will hold up against Apple’s.

Have some trouble getting your iOS device to wake you up this morning? Well, you’re not the only one, as users have lodged multiple complaints stating the same thing. According to the complaints, if you have a non-recurring alarm, your device simply won’t go off. However, if your alarm is recurring, then it will sound off just fine.
According to an Apple spokesperson:
“We’re aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2,” Harrison said. “Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3.”
In other words, if you need your iDevice to wake you up anytime before January 3rd, when the bug is supposed to fix itself, you better make sure you set that alarm to be recurring.
Have any of you experienced this bug? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

Apple updated the Apple TV in September dropping the price to $99, and expects to sell over a million of them by the end of this week. The new Apple TV allows owners to seamlessly stream content from their computers, iPhones, or iPads, as well as rent content from iTunes, and view content from YouTube, Flickr, and Netflix. Apple also released a new Remote app for the iPhone allowing Apple TV owners to use their iPhone as a remote.
In other news, yesterday Google asked manufacturers not to release any new Google TV devices next month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Google TV was expected to be a competitor to Apple TV, but so far has been blocked by all major networks and movie studios, and has received poor press reviews, and likely few sales.

Apple has released the much anticipated iOS 4.2 update which includes Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay, and AirPrint. Although many of these features have been on the iPhone and iPod touch since June, this is the first time such features are available on the iPad.
“iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”
Lesser known new features include Facetime improvements, find text in Safari, custom tones per contact, new fonts in the Notes app, and many bug fixes. Devices compatible with iOS 4.2 include the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2nd generation or later.
The update also includes several security fixes, and is even available for the newly released Apple TV (not including the App Store however).
To top it off, Apple is now allowing all iPhone users the ability to use the “Find my iPhone” feature for free without a MobileMe subscription (setup guide).
To update your iOS device, simply plug it into your computer running the latest version of iTunes, and select Update.
