Steve Jobs and Paul Otellini at Macworld San Francisco 2006

You’ve probably noticed by now that AppleXnews.com has a brand new design, and has entered into its soft launch phase. If you’re a long time Mac user the name “Apple-X” might sound familiar. Between 2001 and 2006 I ran “Apple-X” which during those years had several different names and URLs ranging from AppleXnews, to Apple-X.net, to AppleXnet.com. Why all the name changes? Truthfully, I was still in high school when I launched the first “Apple-X” and knew very little about branding, marketing, or anything of that nature at the time. I was as indecisive as a teenager, and that’s because I was a teenager.

Nine and a half years later and here I am trying to launch the same blog I launched when I was just getting use to having hair on my legs. This time around I’m hoping to bring a lot more experience to the table.

What made previous versions of “Apple-X” so successful was the fact I did not hold myself or my writers back from expressing their opinions, and encouraged discussion. I had essentially created what we now know of us a “blog” before anyone knew what a “blog” was. Over the years we had some major breaking stories that made the homepage of Slashdot, Digg, and other major tech news sites of the era, and we predicted many new products, and industry trends. My hope is to inspire the same kind of content and feature stories I did so many years ago.

Unlike the tens of millions of people who own Macs today, I was born a Mac user. In fact, I’ve been on a Mac before I could even read, let alone write. I remember when computers had green screens, I played games in black and white, I had an iPod with a hard drive that had a plastic scroll wheel, hell I even owned a pager (granted it wasn’t an Apple device, but still). From 2001 to 2006 I blogged the launch of the iPod, Mac OS 10.0, attended several Macworlds and Apple Press Events, and in 2006 predicted an Apple Renaissance. Four years later Apple Inc. is now the 2nd largest company in the United States, and worth more than Microsoft.

In the summer of 2006, now in college, I sold AppleXnet and went on to be published by ValleyWag.com, a Gawker Media blog, and had a tech column over at SuicideGirls.com (they’re kind of like the Playboy of my generation). I then left blogging altogether when I went to work for LiveUniverse, an Internet media company started by two of the former founders of MySpace. After two and half years I took a position working for the real Playboy doing Internet marketing. I’m now launching my own Internet marketing startup, and blog network with AppleXnews 2010 being one of the first properties. More importantly I feel the call again to encourage discussion concerning the state of the tech industry, and I’m looking forward to the emerging war between Apple and Google.

With all of this said, we’re still working on finalizing the new design, meanwhile begging some of our original writers to come back, and looking for some new ones. We’ll hopefully get a steady stream of blog posts over the course of this month so bookmark us, subscribe to our feed, follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or just simply keep coming back.
