Google is in aggressive talks with publishers to compete with Apple’s digital newsstand market. Apple currently takes 30% commissions from digital sales through iTunes. Google, however, in an attempt to undercut its competitor is offering less than 30% , and has also proposed giving publishers certain personal data about app buyers to help for marketing purposes.
Apple is not going to take this one sitting down, and has already started preparing for a confrontation. For starters, they are making it easier for publishers to offer discounts on long term commitments. Furthermore, they are offering to share personal data with publishers with an opt in program. Publishers are less content with an opt in because they believe consumers are unwilling to share their personal data. While the move by Google is a smart one, especially with the slew of Android tablets coming out this year, it certainly remains to be seen how their offering will hold up against Apple’s.

Apple’s stock (AAPL) reached an all-time high today with a closing share value of 318.62. The closing value was up 1.49 (0.47%) from it’s previous trading day closing.
The increase comes just 4 days (2 trading days) after the company’s previous all-time high which was on Thursday November 4, 2010. This date also marked the Apple’s highest all-time intraday trading value of 320.18, a reflection of a widespread pop across financial markets due to a U.S. Fed announcement of $600B in new stimulation funds. For now, 320.18 will mark the corporation’s new 52-week high, but with analyst predictions of AAPL reaching values upwards of 360+ it seems as though only time will determine which dates mark Apple’s newest all-time trading price.
